After making her first solo piano LP recording in 1959 atthe age of seventeen, Idil Biret had to wait for nearly three decadesbefore recording with an orchestra in a studio. In 1988 she recorded inLondon Saint-Saëns’ 2nd and 4th Concertos with the legendaryPhilharmonia Orchestra conducted by James Loughran. During the next 25years Biret made recordings of over sixty works for piano and orchestrain studio and at concerts under the baton of eminent conductorsincluding Jean Fournet, Emil Tabakov, and Toshi Shimada—all includedin this enormous release.
