The three works presented on this recording, the Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue in the German stylus phantasticus, the Fourth Partita with its French Ouverture and the Third English Suite with its Italianate Prelude, reflect Bach’s life-long interest in incorporating different national styles into his compositions. The American harpsichordist and teacher, Lisa Goode Crawford, known for her performances of French baroque music and the music of Bach, is Emerita Professor of Harpsichord at the Oberlin Conservatory. On this disc she plays a 1624 harpsichord built by Ioannes Ruckers.
