As a student at London’s Royal Academy of Music, Bax produced a variety of chamber works, suppressed in his lifetime, including several works for clarinet. This disc offers a fascinating blend of two early works for clarinet and piano, the ambitious Trio in One Movement from 1906 (all world première recordings), and the mature, elegiac Clarinet Sonata in D, one of Bax’s most frequently played works, as well as his last chamber work, the Piano Trio in B flat.
